Foods for prostate Health - Four Essential ingredients

See the four ingredients every man over 50 should know  As we age it’s more important than ever to maintain our prostate health. I know it all seems obvious, but as we get caught up with our lives and daily dramas, it becomes so easy to forget the simple rules of healthy eating.

For those of you who do have time to prepare proper meals,  (which should be all of you!) if you can find a nice balance of using these ingredients a few times each week, then you could find your prostate health-improving too, especially when combined with regular exercise – even if that means just going for a walk each day.

Garlic

Not only does garlic make most meals taste delicious, it has hardly any calories, and is fantastic for the immune system. This is because is so rich in vitamin B, Manganese and Vitamin C, and includes trace amounts of numerous other beneficial nutrients. There have been several studies on prostate health and garlic at the Maryland University Medical Center, and all the findings were very positive.

Fresh tomatoes – Never canned!

A Harvard University study of a staggering 47,400 men, found that a regular intake of tomato-based products could have very beneficial effects on common prostate health concerns. It is believed lycopene, found in tomato sauce could be the key. Tomatoes cooked in olive oil are even healthier, as it breaks down the tomato and allows lycopene to be released, allowing your body to absorb even more goodness.

Berries

Research published in the Annals of Neurology found people who consume berries a couple of times a week are mentally sharper than their peers, who do not. It was discovered that people who consumed the highest amount of berries postponed the cognitive decline by approximately 2.5 years. It is believed a group of compounds, which are primarily found only in berries, target and improve the memory and learning centers of your brain!

Whole Grains

Did you know there’s a council dedicated to whole grains?  For those of you who prefer a summary, here’s some of the main health benefits found with the consumption of whole grains:

  • The risk of stroke is reduced thirty to thirty-six percent
  • The risk of type two diabetes is reduced by twenty-one to thirty percent
  • The risk of heart disease is reduced by twenty-five to twenty-eight percent
  • Weight maintenance is easier
  • The risk of asthma is reduced
  • You have healthier carotid arteries
  • Improved blood pressure
  • Less tooth loss and gum disease problems

These ingredients only work as part of an all round healthy, balanced diet, which has a positive effect on your prostate health too. If you do cook regularly, look at the ingredients you are using, and make sure you are getting the most from your meals
